Who We Are
CycleAlert is a free road safety application developed independently. The app helps drivers detect cyclists ahead on the same road, and helps cyclists be seen by approaching drivers.

What Data We Collect
CycleAlert collects only the minimum data required for core functionality:
- GPS location (latitude, longitude, heading, speed) — only when the app is actively running
- Street name via reverse geocoding — used locally to improve road-matching accuracy
- Anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated ID to distinguish active users in real time
- SOS and group mode status — only when manually activated by the user
We do not collect: name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, payment information, or any other personal data.
How We Use Your Data
- Your GPS position is shared in real time with other nearby CycleAlert users to enable proximity alerts
- Location data is stored temporarily in Firebase Realtime Database and automatically deleted when you stop the app or disconnect
- We do not store historical location data or movement history
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose
Data Retention
Your location is removed from our servers automatically when:
- You stop tracking (tap "End ride" or "Stop driving")
- The app is closed or goes to background
- Your device loses internet connection
We do not keep any record of where you have been.
Third-Party Services
CycleAlert uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Realtime Database (Google) — for real-time location sync between users. Google's privacy policy applies.
- OpenStreetMap — for map tiles and route data. No personal data is sent to OSM.
- Open-Meteo — for weather data based on your approximate location. No personal data is stored by Open-Meteo.
Location Permissions
The app requests location permission to function. Without location access, CycleAlert cannot provide safety alerts. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings, which will stop the app from sharing your position.
The app is designed to minimize battery usage while running in the background. Background location access is used exclusively to maintain safety alerts when the screen is off.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect personal data tied to your identity, there is no profile to delete. Your anonymous device ID is removed automatically when you stop using the app. If you have any concerns, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
CycleAlert does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
